Lavendon is the most northerly village in Milton Keynes, with borders to both Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. It is bordered on its southern flank by the river Ouse. There is open countryside on all sides with pleasant walks and bridle paths.

The village is medium sized with about 1500 people living in it. It is relatively compact but with outlying farms and small groups of houses which are barn conversions. Within the main village, houses are mixed in style and size. There is a central conservation area with stone cottages, and there are modern style houses, some in small estates, others as infilling. There is also social housing provided by Milton Keynes and by Hastoe Housing Association.

There is a thriving village shop with owners who will always try and improve things for residents - this is open from 7.00am to 7.00pm seven days a week. Within the shop is the post office and an in house bakery. Other facilities offered are newspaper delivery, a collection point for dry cleaning and shoe repairs, a prescription service with one of the local GP practices and there is a lottery terminal. The nearest fish and chip shop is in Olney, where there is a wide range of shops which deal with many day to day needs, including Barclays Bank, Nat West Bank and Nationwide Click here for more details of Olney Shopping

What facilities are in the village? Lavendon Combined School which is currently healthy in numbers, a private nursery on the same premises, a pre school group and a once weekly toddlers group. There is no health centre within the village - residents use doctors in Olney and in Harrold Bedfordshire (each 3 miles away) There is a village hall which offers many events and is also well booked by those outside the village too.

The church - the building is the oldest in the Milton Keynes area - is part of a four village benefice with Cold Brayfield, Newton Blossomville and Clifton Reynes and has just had a new minister installed. There is also a chapel within the village, a very well run group for the over 60's, with lots of activities and outings arranged. A youth club meets once a week and the MK Youth Coffee Bus calls every other Thursday. There is also a thriving Brownie pack.

There are two local pubs on the busy main road, The Green Man and The Horseshoe. Both serve food and have gardens for a drink in the summer. The Green Man often has special evenings and two for one offers.

The village has a playing field with a thriving football team who use it. There is a brick pavilion on the fields which can also be used for social events.

Last but not least the village has its narrow guage railway run by long term residents. This raises funds for charitable causes - well worth a visit, particularly the Santa express in December!

The Parish Council has eight members and meets once a month with a second meeting in two months out of three. It is an active council and tries to do its best for the community and to liase with Milton Keynes. The village owns the Old School, a Victorian building which is used by the pre school each morning and is available for hire.

Bus services to and from the village are fairly regular. There is an hourly service to Northampton and Bedford and the service to Milton Keynes has been much improved. On Thursday there is a community bus which takes people to Olney for the Thursday Market.
